Kyle Massey
Executive Chef
Kyle Massey is a Hudson Valley native, Culinary Institute of America (CIA) graduate, and executive chef at The Storyteller. For Kyle, cooking is a true passion, family tradition and a meaningful career he actively encourages others to pursue.
Kyle was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, where he learned family recipes and watched his father and grandfathers cook for their loved ones and communities.
As a teen, Kyle got his start at Amici's, a "red-sauce joint" in Poughkeepsie that served classics like chicken parmesan, New York-style pizza and ice cream. Later, after graduating from the CIA in 2015, he spent a year in Rhinebeck.
Then, Kyle moved out of New York for about a decade. Having never lived outside of the Hudson Valley, he wanted to explore other parts of the country.
After a stint at the Four Seasons Resort in Palm Beach, Florida, Kyle spent nine years working at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, which featured an onsite farm with vegetables, chickens, sheep, cattle and a greenhouse program. There, he developed a passion for field- and farm-to-table initiatives and led a specialized dry aging program.
Kyle returned to the Hudson Valley in 2025 and began his journey at The Storyteller.
He is committed to using ingredients sourced in the Hudson Valley, which are otherwise hard to find, and creating experiences that foster communal dining. This shines through in The Storyteller's menu, which focuses on shareable, small plates and changes seasonally to feature produce at its peak of freshness.
Kyle hopes guests walk away from their experience at The Storyteller raving about the food, cocktails and atmosphere. But his biggest goal is to honor the chefs who taught him and nurture the next generation of culinary talent.
